Eight Habits to Kick Today

http://www.reneweveryday.com/assets/1/7/e7413180a40f43c484d280c69190c7fa1.jpgBuilding self-confidence has the ability to redirect your life in a positive direction. Hopes and desires have the opportunity to realign your life. With the presence of self-confidence you can begin to believe you exist for a greater purpose.

There are many things that can get in the way of lifting your self-confidence. And most times, these are things we routinely do to ourselves. Luckily, with work, we can stop these damaging behaviors.

Here are eight things you need to stop doing to yourself. Start today.

Stop viewing past mistakes as failures; they’re learning opportunities. — We’ve all tried and failed at some point in our lives. Stop berating yourself for them. Self-confident people have the ability to look back at failures and learn from them. Every mistake is preparing you for a future moment.

Stop putting your own needs behind everyone else’s. – It’s painful and damaging when you lose yourself in the process of loving someone else too much. It’s great to help others, but while you do, make sure you’re also helping yourself. Take care of yourself, inside and out.

Stop holding grudges. – Holding on to anger doesn’t get you anywhere in life. How can you find happiness with hate in your heart? But don’t confuse forgiveness with weakness. Forgiveness doesn’t mean you are OK with wrongs committed against you. Forgiveness says, “I’m not going to let what you did to me ruin my happiness.”

Stop focusing on what you don’t want to happen. – It’s wasted time and wasted worry. Focus on what you do want to happen.  Positive thinking is the start of every great success story.

Stop being jealous. – Fight the desire to compare yourself and what you have to others. Comparison and jealousy will always leaves you with feelings of inadequacy. The next time you feel a fit of the green-eyed monster coming out, ask yourself:  “What’s something I have that everyone wants?”

Stop looking to others for happiness. Make your own. – If you’re not happy with who you are on the inside, you won’t be happy with anyone else. You have to create happiness and stability in your own life first. Then work to share it.

Stop trying to buy happiness. – Much like not finding happiness in others, stop trying to get satisfaction from material things. The truly satisfying things in life are free – family, friends, laughter, working on our passions.

Stop spending time with the wrong people. – Life is too short. Don’t spend it with people who you feel are only around to suck the happiness out of you. If you are meant to be in someone’s life and they want you in theirs, they — and life — will make room. Your true friends are the ones that stick by you at your worst, not your best.

Great advice for a solid and holistic recovery. I notice that when I have stopped these things, I am content and fulfilled. When I slip back into any of these old habits I am miserable.
