Presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told a group of New Hampshire voters that she would make the “quiet epidemic” of substance abuse a focus of the 2016 presidential campaign.

Clinton said that drug abuse can no longer be ignored, pointing to far-reaching consequences like the HIV outbreak that was recently blamed on shared drug needles.

Clinton was prompted to bring up the drug issue after an attendee at the round-table meeting told her about the recent spike in drug issues in the community.

"I have to tell you, before I went to Iowa last week I wasn't aware of the depth of feeling people had about substance abuse issues, so here again, I heard it in New Hampshire, so I want people to know that I'm listening," Clinton said.
