An energetic crowd turned out for the 8th Annual Polo in the Palisades Charity Tournament to benefit women and children in need on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013.

Hosted by the Promises Foundation, the event was held at Will Rogers State Historic Park in Pacific Palisades, Calif., and benefited Miriam House.

Master of Ceremonies KTLA's Wendy Burch emceed the festivities, which featured actor Matthew Perry among other award recipients, a special luncheon, three polo matches and a live auction.

Perry was the recipient of "The Distinguished Community Service Award," from The Promises Foundation.

"We were overjoyed to once again bring together our friends and leaders in the entertainment, business, philanthropic and recovery communities to support the Promises Foundation's mission to significantly impact the lives of women and children," said Bryan Moeller, chairman of the board of The Promises Foundation.

"We are thankful for the continued generosity from our sponsors and patrons. Wells Fargo has once again stepped up to be our title sponsor," he continued.

Perry, most popularly known for his role on the mega-hit "Friends," is a devoted recovery activist. Others honored were  Anne Douglas, founder of the Anne Douglas Center for Women; Michael Nasatir, criminal lawyer to America's top celebrities, musicians and political figures; and Peggy Albrecht, executive Director of Friendly House.

The Promises Foundation, a 501c3 public charity, supports Miriam's House, a transitional living home that provides a one-year program of recovery services, parenting education, career guidance, scholarships and a pathway to permanent housing.

"The Polo in the Palisades event is one of our most highly anticipated fundraisers of the year," said Patricia Meyers, event Chair, a Promises Foundation board member, and the clinical admissions director at Promises.

"Promises has supported Miriam's House since its inception," said David Sack, MD, CEO of Promises Treatment Centers.

Sack said an important part of Promises' mission is to be of service to the local community, and Miriam's House is one of the most meaningful ways they give back.

"Love and service," Perry said, when asked by Renew Publisher Jim Moorehead to characterize his time in recovery.

"You can do better than that," Moorhead responded.

"C'mon dude!" Perry retorted.

Upon reflection, Moorhead supposed, "Maybe he thought I was from TMZ?"
