Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker was once so addicted to prescription pills that he had his security details check to make sure he was still alive each night, the rocker revealed in a candid interview with Billboard

"I was so addicted Oxycondone, and I had a secuirty that would actually sleep during the day and then stay up at night to make sure I was breathing," Barker said. "That was pretty pathetic."

Now, Barker is eight years sober, and says that it is how his life should be.

"I was meant to be sober," he said. "Once I was clear headed, and I hadn't been clear headed in so long, I was like, I can never go back. And I am still thankful."

Barker, 39, was one of only two survivors of a 2008 plane crash that killed four people. After the crash he experienced post-traumatic stress, and said that it took him many months to feel like himself again.

However, today the single father of two says that he is doing very well. He is sharing the highs and lows of his life in a new memoir, Can I Say

"I have the best support system," he said. "I have the most amazing kids. I'm not on any medications... I get so much love and happiness out of playing music and playing the drums and my kids. There's nothing better. I couldn't ask for more."
